Hepatitis B
HBV (Hepatitis B) is a disease caused by a virus. Virus can make a lot of liver cell into death and damage liver function. Most infected people with the virus will become lifelong HBV carrier. There are also chances of developing chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer in the future. According to statistics, about 8% of the population of Hong Kong is a HBV carrier.

The long-term effects of hepatitis B carriers
According to statistics, about 25% of the hepatitis B virus carrier could possibly develop into chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis or liver cancer, and these conditions will generally appear at the age of 50 to 60. Therefore, carriers should be checked regularly to monitor liver function and liver health for early diagnosis and treatment.

Hepatitis B surface antigen (quantitative)

  • Check whether carry any hepatitis B virus and their number
  • If the test results show a positive reaction, that means who have been infected and the virus to remain latent in body. Patients do not need to receive vaccinations, but they are required to check liver function and liver health regularly
  • If the test results show a negative reaction and no antibodies, you may consider taking hepatitis B vaccine to prevent viral infection

Hepatitis B surface antibody (quantitative)
  • Check whether carry any hepatitis B virus and their number
  • If you have never been vaccinated and the body has antibodies, that means who have been infected was able to fully recover, and the body produced antibodies itself a, becoming a lifelong immunity
  • Most people who have received the hepatitis B vaccine can produce antibodies. Hepatitis B surface antibody test checks the number of antibodies. If antibodies are found to be insufficient, you can take booster dose based on doctor’s guidelines
