Pre-employment medical examination - professional drivers
Drivers of commercial vehicles drive for long hours on road, which lead to reversal of daily routine. Coupled with irregular diet, they are prone to urban common diseases, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, mental illness, diabetes, etc. For serious cases, it will even affect the ability to drive, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.
Responsibility of Commercial driver's employer and public transport operators:
- Ensure that their drivers meet the physical requirements
- Encourage drivers to understand their own physical condition and provide stable and secure services to customers and the public
- Provide "pre-employment health check." for newly-employed staff before work.
- If an employer found the employee is in discomfort or abnormal mental condition at work, the employer should suspend his/her work and ask him/her to see a doctor or for medical examination
- Require employees to undergo regular health checks, in response to individual circumstances, such as age, medical history, risk factors, individual lifestyle, family history, etc., and they should take health check and receive consultation by a doctor
How do employers ensure the health of commercial drivers to meet qualification? |
- Provide "professional drivers pre-employment health checks" for newly employed drivers before work.
